How to write this? I'm crying, literally crying with tears of goodness, as I experience the greatness of this country and it amazing people.
As we began this adventure on the Great Open Road, our intention, our desire, was to experience America, its citizens and its places. After years on the San Diego County and City of Carlsbad daises, and for Julie, endless school board meetings as an administrator, our view of our land can become colored by pressure decisions, billion dollar developments, unions, political party pressures and activists.
Leadership is incredibly important and very pressure packed, but it's not to be confused with the greatness of ordinary people, the power of an unshakable faith, and the amazing American soul that exist in every community and place across America. We discovered one amazing example of that special "American Soul" last night.
Julie and I had a remarkable evening at the Alamogordo White Sands KOA listening to Bluegrass. The three gents have been playing together for 30 years and they are very popular in the Alamogordo area. Dozens of guitarists will join with them on occasions and this was their 2nd gig of the night. The average age of the group was 85 years old. As they called out their musical key for each song, you could tell they were Air Force vets from Holloman Air force Base. What Key? Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo and Foxtrot for the keys.
I've been to many concerts, but none that have moved me more than last night in the city of Alamogordo. Amazing Americans...Amazing exemplars of grace.
Next up today is visiting the worlds largest Pistachio! It's an adventure, nuts and all.
Thanks for reading
